Cathie Humbert
I was born in Geneva, Switzerland. After obtaining my Master’s degree in translation from English and Spanish to French from the School of Translation and Interpretation (ETI) of the University of Geneva, I completed an internship as a translator in England and volunteered for the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. Eager to discover new cultures and live in a warmer climate, I crossed the Atlantic to live and work in the Dominican Republic.
I took my first steps as a professional translator in 2000 in an American translation agency, when the tech startup wave was at its peak.
Three years working in-house first as an English to French translator, and then as the French team supervisor allowed me to put the theoretical knowledge acquired at university in practice and learn the practical aspects of the trade. During that time, overseeing translations for the technology sector was my main responsibility.
In 2003, I decided to set out on my own and haven’t stopped freelancing since then. Numerous translation agencies and direct clients have trusted me with translation projects in a wide range of sectors, including IT, tourism, finance and industry. My main work area is translating for international organisations and the European Union, with a focus on gender equality and development.
Based in Barcelona, Spain, since 2007, I have always been eager to learn about a wide range of topics alongside my translation work; I learnt Catalan to feel integrated in my host culture, and more recently, I obtained my immediate health assistance certificate to serve as a rescuer for the Red Cross in land and at sea and passed my sailing license to explore the Mediterranean Sea.
Detail and quality-oriented, I strive to deliver the best possible translation, while always hewing to customers’ guidelines and paying meticulous attention to the unique characteristics of the text.
Human at heart, technology savvy
